How to get to the High Mountain Institute via Shuttles & Taxi
The Dee Hive (DEEHIVETOURS@YAHOO.COM 888-266-2339, 719-486-2339) is a local service that will take you between the High Mountain Institute and the Copper Mountain Conoco station. Because they cannot fill their van, Dee Hive rides to/from the airport are very expensive. Instead, we recommend using The Dee Hive as a way to get to the Conoco station, which is a drop-off and pick-up point for people using Colorado Mountain Express to go to/from the airport. As of 2002, between 8 AM-6PM, the Dee Hive will take you to/from High Mountain Institute and to/from the Conoco station for $42. For two passengers, the cost is $32/each. After 7 PM, they charge $50 for 1 passenger or $38/each for 2 passengers. You will need to make a reservation with them at least 2 days in advance, although more notice is better for them. Once you have a reservation, please let the receptionist at the High Mountain Institute know your travel plans.
Colorado Mountain Express (970-468-7600, 800-334-7433, www.ridecme.com) is a shuttle service that runs between Summit County/Copper Mountain and Denver International Airport. It does not deliver passengers all the way to Leadville. As of 2002, for $52, Colorado Mountain Express will take you between the Copper Mountain Conoco Gas Station and the Airport. Round trip is $104. When you retrieve your luggage, you can find the Colorado Mountain Express Check-In Counter near the Hertz rental car desk. Be sure you tell them to take you to the Copper Mountain Conoco Gas Station. If you are going to the airport, a well-labeled Colorado Mountain Express van will meet you in the parking lot of the Conoco Gas Station.
