Construction Underway at HMI

Construction Underway at HMI

Construction on the new Student and Faculty Community Center and Stuen Hall is underway at HMI.

The two buildings will complete the build out of the HMI campus as envisioned in the school's original master plan. The two buildings will be located on the west end of campus, near the student cabins.

The Student and Faculty Community Center, a three-story structure, will house a faculty apartment, living space for apprentices, a sick room, laundry facilities, and bathrooms and storage space for students.

Thanks in part to a generous donation in support of renewable energy initiatives, the Student and Faculty Community Center will feature green technology, including solar hot water heaters.

Plans for Stuen Hall--named for Matthew Stuen of RMS VIII, who died in 2004--call for it to serve as much-needed classroom space and as a replacement for the Yurt, which is no longer sufficient for the needs of the entire HMI community.

The project is being funded by donations to HMI's Campaign for Sustainability. Please click here for more information on the capital campaign.

Jack Saunders, of The Saunders Company of Leadville, is serving as the General Contractor for both projects. Both Jack and architect Joede Schoeberlein, of Civic Forum Associates Inc., helped design and build HMI's East Building. Plans call for the two new buildings to match the feel of the existing HMI campus.
