Apprentice Program Admissions

Who should apply: Motivated college graduates seeking experience in the classroom, residential education and wilderness.

Prerequisites: Accepted apprentices must provide proof of health insurance, current CPR, and Wilderness First Responder (WFR) or Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification by the time the program begins. The High Mountain Institute hosts Wilderness Medicine Institute WFA and WFR certification courses.  Click here to see a schedule of courses offered.

Dates:
Application Deadline (for both semesters): February 15, 2012

Notification of Acceptance: March 15, 2012

Enrollment Deadline: April 1, 2012

Fall Semester: July 30 - December 17, 2012

Spring Semester: January 2 - May 28, 2013

Tuition:
$3,650 per semester*
*Cost includes room & board; all class materials; and wilderness gear rental. Financial Aid is available.

  1. The Apprentice Program combines wilderness, academic, and residential education. What interests you about this combination?
  2. Briefly discuss your experience in the following three areas: personal and professional wilderness expeditions; traditional teaching; and residential education/leadership.
  3. The Apprentice Program is an intensive five months of living in a small community. What experience do you have that will help you contribute positively to the community?
