April 1
Since we've been back from second expedition, our classes have been jam packed so that we can learn as much as possible before leaving on spring break. We've all been hard at work writing Science, English, and History papers. On top of our major projects, we've been hard at work preparing what we're going to do in class for Parents’ Weekend. In most of our classes we have planned interactive ways to get our parents involved and show them what we have learned. In English we've been preparing poems about our lives at HMI to read during class for our family coming to visit. These poems range from funny to intense and it will be really exciting to finally read them to our parents.

This week we had some great activities. On Monday all the apprentices ran an activity called Pirates! We all gathered in Who's Hall to first play a game called “Captain's Calling.” After that we got dressed in costumes and went around to stations where we did things such as make pirate hats and eye patches, search for treasure, joust, and play some more pirate games. On other days, we also went Nordic skiing and stopped to have a girls-against-boys snowball fight on the snow-covered golf course. Our walk to Turquoise lake on Tuesday was fun, and on Friday we started gearing up for Parents’ Weekend.
Parent’s Weekend is now upon us, and everyone is both nervous and excited. What will it be like for most of us to see our parents for the first time in 2 months? A lot of us have never gone this long without seeing our parents, and we’re all telling funny stories about them to each other to bond over the funniness of the experience. Everyone spent today preparing for our parents arrival - while some kids were cooking appetizers in the kitchen, others were making flower arrangements. We’ve all written poems to read to our parents during English, and some students are really hoping that their parents will be asked to do an interpretive dance of different graphs during math class. The weather was very nice today, too, almost as if it’s getting warm just for our parents! We’re all looking forward to the forecast of 50° tomorrow, and some of us even basked in the sun today.
Let Parents’ Weekend begin!
