About the High Peaks Adventure Program
The High Peaks Adventure is an action-packed two-week wilderness program for 7th and 8th graders at the High Mountain Institute in Leadville, Colorado. Through this exciting program, we are able to offer the high level of wilderness instruction that is the signature of our Rocky Mountain Semester and Leading Edge programs to a younger audience.
The High Peaks Adventure is focused on variety--and fun! We begin with an extended backpacking trip in the Sawatch Mountains of central Colorado. While in the backcountry, we take time out for some alpine top-rope rock climbing, as well as service work on one of Colorado’s 14,000-foot peaks. Returning to campus, we gear up for more adventure, tackling two of Colorado’s best-known sports. We spend a day mountain biking on local trails, and finish with an exhilarating whitewater rafting trip.
Phew! We’ll be tired at the end, but will have had an incredible time sampling the best that Colorado has to offer. You’ll head home with new friends and memories of high peaks and rushing rivers that will last a lifetime.
Experience HMI this summer!
