RMS & Your Home School
Potential students and their parents often ask, “Will I fall behind in school if I do the RMS?” The simple answer is no. For year-long courses (Spanish, French, Math, U.S. History), we strive to cover similar material to what you would study at your home school. Before the start of the semester, we send detailed questionnaires to your language and math teachers so that we know which topics you need to cover during your semester with us. The reality is that you might not cover every single topic, but your understanding of the material and your overall experience at the RMS will prepare you to be successful when you return to your home school. English and the natural science classes are more like one semester electives. Although you may not read the same novels, you should not have any trouble fitting back into English. As for Science, our class pairs well with another one semester elective course, such as ecology or an environmental science course. Finally, our Practices and Principles course is unique to the RMS. It will likely satisfy an elective requirement at your home school.
Academically, the RMS helps students broaden their horizons. They know how to capitalize on the opportunities around them – and they invariably are re-invigorated about “getting the most out of daily life” back at our school. All of these skills are a tremendous asset in preparing for higher education. - Mary F. Hill, St. Paul Academy and Summit School
