Testimonials
"This a a place and program that encourages students to look deep inside and discover the people they want to be."-- alumnus parent
“It’s great to have Meaghan back with us. She’s still the Meaghan we know and love, but she is changed, too, in big and small ways and in ways that are probably not yet visible to me. The biggest change I see is a new confidence in herself and a newfound ambition as a student. In the challenging, stimulating, and supportive environment at HMI, Meaghan discovered that she is a more intelligent young woman than she realized and that she has opinions, theories and beliefs about which she is passionate. Better yet, the daily demands of writing and participating in class at HMI taught her to convey these ideas with eloquence, persuasiveness, and self-assurance. We always knew she had this kind of depth; what’s exciting and satisfying is to see her realize it.”

“My Purpose in writing this letter is not only to say hello, but also to thank you for everything you gave me last semester. I don’t even know how to express it, but I just want you to know how incredible the experience was for me. I learned a ton of things to help me through the rest of my life that I may not have learned until I was much older.”
--Hilary Halstead (Alumna)

--Louise and Frank Deland (alumna parent)
“I had an amazing and inspiring semester. This would not have occurred if it wasn’t for your goal to create this place. I wouldn’t know where to begin with my thoughts about what has happened to my brain and spirit this semester. I can tell you though, the combination of having such a huge and sober change in my life, doing intensive classes and camping, and meeting great, new people has made my head a lot clearer and oriented for my future explorations.”

“We so enjoyed being a part of RMS Parents’ Weekend. What a wonderful group of teachers you have gathered. Your school is giving Kaegan a safe setting for him to grow, to step up and embrace life passionately- he is surrounded by vibrant people who care deeply about taking on life.”

“When 15-16-17 year olds live together for awhile, in a place such as yours, they grow and bloom together in such an intense way! Now she has another family to cherish--and that can only be very good. Thank you for providing this experience!”

“I want to thank you for all that you and the school are doing for Samantha. She is really relishing the experience and thriving with new friends and new challenges- physical, social, and academic. She was wonderfully happy and enthusiastic when I was there during Columbus Day weekend.”

“The concept of joining solid and rigorous classroom lessons with field experiences has always appealed to me, and it certainly appeals to Hilary. We were truly impressed with the whole program- the educational concept, the location, the facility and, of course, the teachers.”
--Clark and Carol Halstead (alumna parents)
“I wondered if we might be the only parents who felt their child had changed profoundly, but as I explored this over Parents’ Weekend, it was clear to me that many of the other parents felt exactly the same way. The faculty served many roles for the students- as guides, as mentors, as facilitators of the entire experience. We were also impressed by the importance placed on leadership, and cultivating in the students the ability to recognize that different situations call for different leadership skills and styles. There is a healthy dose of risk involved as well, but that too I think contributes to the power of the experience. Perhaps the greatest indicator of the remarkable success of this program was watching the students, coming from many different schools and backgrounds, fully engaged and enthusiastically working together as a community-in the classroom, in the kitchen, in the cabins, and out in the world.”
