Last Saturday night we held our very own prom! Planned by our student representatives, we were all randomly assigned prom
dates and one of us had to ask the other in a creative manner. The week leading up to prom everyone went all out by creating scavenger hunts, making a calculator program, and even serenading in order to ask. By the time Saturday night arrived there was much excitement buzzing through the campus and surprise at seeing everyone in their best dress. Held in the climbin
g hall, and DJed by our very own Kevin Chun, everyone had a blast dancing the night away!
On Sunday after the prom, we ran the fun run. The "fun run" is ten miles at ten thousand feet, beginning at ten in the morning and has been going on since RMS fourteen. There were several notable occurrences. First of all, our semester was the first semester ever in which all of the students participated and finished. All forty-two students were able to run for the full ten miles. Also, our semester was one of the fastest ever. We recorded two of the three fastest times ever, with Sam Learner and Scott Fuller near an hour and ten minutes, and Sam Fox recording the fastest girls’ time ever. Many agreed that Alex Garner had a very impressive performance as well, as he had trouble getting through runs without walking at the beginning of the semester, and came in with a very fast time in the top ten finishers. Along the way there were three aid stations with Gatorade, water, and snacks and at the end there was a table of snacks waiting for the tired studen
ts. Afterwards, we went to the Leadville pool for a relaxing swim and sit in the hot tub.
In other news: classes are over! It’s exciting to be done with them, but at the same time it’s sad to think that this semester is coming to a close. In many classes we rapped up with some finale notes, played games (educati
onal games of course) and filled out class evaluations, which some people forgot to do (*cough**cough* Dan Norton). In AP U.S. History, Matt led us through the woods in search of the historically famous pirate Captain Jimmy and his dragon friend who hid their treasure near the Arrr-kansas River. Instead of finding the treasure we found a dragon piñata filled with candy, but that probably made most of us happier.
On Wednesday after classes, we all partook in Project Day. During this sunny day we built things arou
nd campus. Some of us went off of campus to execute grand undertakings. Everyone signed up for a morning activity and an afternoon activity. We were only allowed to sign up for one building project (i.e building a fence), and one not so intriguing project such as cleaning the grease trap in the crawl space. All in all Project Day was a great success, as we all had oodles of fun. After we were all done, Molly gave a wonderful blandiloquence and at the end of the day, we were all proud of our accomplishments.
This is RMS XXVI signing off. It's been an awesome semester, and now we're all off on "expedition four" wherever it may take us!
