We had been waiting for Saturday night for as while now and finally it came. The week before had b
een busy with creatively asking people to prom. We witnessed everything from rapping at dinner to a chocolate scavenger hunt. On Saturday night everyone dressed up and danced the night away.
Our prom was DJ'd by the one and only DJ Diction (aka Sam, our math teacher). It was held in the climbing hall so there was plenty of space to get our groove on. Some of the night's highlights included Clark's dancing skills, Crandall's new stylish bowl cut,
Scott's prom outfit and much more. There was also a room full of snacks and beverages, which kept everyone energetic and happy for the night. Then, after an evening of fun and dancing we climbed into bed to get a good night sleep for the Fun Run th
e next day.
Then on Sunday, after a semester of training, RMS 24 successfully completed the Fun Run! It was a beautiful, sunny day, and we were all in good spirits when we started at 10 am with Karl and Sherpa in the lead. It turned out to be the windiest fun run in HMI history, with winds gusting at 30mph. Though this was an obstacle at first, we were grateful for the cool breeze on such a hot day. The three aid stations
along the way handed out snacks and water, and cheered us on as we went. The finish line was the end of the HMI driveway, and everyone was glad to get back and go to the pool or take a nap!
Like all weeks, this week was busy. However, this week was especially busy with the ending of all of our classes. The U.S. history students wrote final research papers, many math classes had final projects such as calculating the volume of Stuen Hall, and science students did environmental presenta
tions about something related to sustainability. However, some classes ended with mini-celebrations. We had a word market auction in Spanish class and ate brownies during science. Our class work here has now drawn to a close, with P&P exam on Friday morning. It is crazy to be done with our junior year!
Breaking up the academics last week, on Thursday, the entire semester completed Project Day. The projects included: fence construction, the staining of the decks of the cabins, ditch construction around Stuen Hall, and the mapping of the entire HMI campus. Under a rare, but enjoyable hot Leadville sun, the whole semester worked very hard to complete these projects and improve the campus environment as a whole. At the end of the day, it was great to be able to see our
hard work and our progress; everyone felt really good about contributing back to HMI through a little bit of manual labor.
As this update is posted, RMS 24 students are scattered about the woods doing solos, taking a chance to reflect on th
e semester.

P.S. We also had our last week of fun activities, complete with making a dinosaur cake with Rachel!
