Who should apply?

The HMI Summer Term is for intellectually curious and motivated students interested in spending a summer exploring their connections to nature and the world around them. We are seeking students who will contribute positively to a strong, vibrant learning community and who are committed to the HMI tradition of working hard and playing hard. Students do not need to have any prior camping experience to participate in the Summer Term. The Summer Term is not a remedial academic program and is not a program for students to work on behavioral, psychological or substance abuse problems.

Sophomores or juniors in solid academic standing are encouraged to apply for the upcoming summer. Acceptance is granted based on academic achievement, personal essays, teacher recommendations, and most importantly, the student's ability to demonstrate his or her desire to participate in a challenging academic and wilderness summer experience.

Please contact Christina Reiff, Director of Summer Term, for more information at creiff@hminet.org or 719-486-8200 ext 107.

Diversity at the High Mountain Institute

HMI strives for diversity by honoring the differences of each member of the community.  We seek to build a community (of trustees, faculty, staff, and students) that represents ethnic, socioeconomic, and geographic diversity and that brings a diversity of experience, background, talent, and perspective.
