Danny O’Brien

Head of School

Danny has been part of the HMI family since 2004 and served as Head of School since 2013. As Head of School, Danny has helped the school reach a number of significant milestones including the creation of the HMI Gap, record admissions and fundraising years, and the successful completion of HMI’s largest-ever capital campaign. Prior to becoming Head of School, Danny wore many hats at HMI. He taught history, served as Director of Admissions and as Acting Head of School. Before coming to HMI, Danny developed his shared passion for education and the outdoors while working at Greensboro Day School and the Island School and leading outdoor trips for Camp Pemigewassett, Overland Adventures, and Longacre Expeditions. He serves on multiple independent school accreditation teams and as a consultant to the College Board and volunteers with the Board of Directors of the Lake County Community Foundation and Bright Start Learning Center. He loves spending time outside with his wife, Ellie, and their children, Vivie and Henry.
