Pooja joined HMI in 2021. She considers herself part writer, part educator, and part cowgirl. She received her B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, where she studied English, sociology, and creative writing. Afterwards, she earned an MFA from Georgia College and taught in their English department for two years. Passionate about the environment and ecocritical theory, she decided to move out West and explore the land. Pooja has worked with the U.S. Forest Service in Arizona and Montana, and has also been a horseback guide in the Sonoran Desert and Mogollon Rim. Her love for education and the environment led her to HMI. In her free time, Pooja enjoys hiking with CJ and their husky, Yesterday. If you catch them on the trail, you’ll probably hear them speaking in Gujarati!
